Grace in the Desert is a book that is both written and illustrated by Kamara L. Marsh MA, LLPC, CAADC, ADS and is based on her true life experiences including a trip to the gulf and interviews she conducted with Katrina survivors back in 2007. In her book, Ms. Marsh discusses a variety of losses encountered in her lifetime and explains how she found meaning and perspective in each one of her personal experiences. She also includes a chapter on her interviews of others who experienced loss during hurricane Katrina and cites common qualities she has noted in idividuals who appear to cope with stress/loss more effectively than others. Her motivation for writing the book is to help others move through obstacles in their lives and learn to overcome them reach their goals and fullest potential.

Kamara gleans her insight from years of counseling experience. During her counseling internship in college, she had the opportunity to work with individuals suffering from traumatic brain injuries. It is here where she received her training in various fields of counseling including substance abuse, grief/loss, pain management, depression, anxiety and phobias.
